What is intercom?

Intercom is a communication system that lets you see and talk to visitors before opening the door. Modern systems come in several variants: traditional 2-wire systems with wired answer units, IP-based systems using network cabling, and 4G/5G-based solutions that work completely wirelessly. Intercom is used in everything from single-family homes and apartment buildings to office buildings, schools and hospitals – everywhere there is a need to control who enters.

Intercom technologies

We deliver intercom based on various technologies, adapted to the building's infrastructure and customer needs.

Wired 2-wire system

The traditional and most widespread intercom system. Uses simple 2-wire cabling between outdoor panel and answer unit in each apartment. Reliable and proven technology that has been in use for decades. Ideal for housing associations where existing cabling already exists, or where a robust system with long lifespan is desired.

IP-based intercom

Modern intercom using network cabling (Ethernet) for communication. Enables HD video, integration with other IP systems, and easy expansion. Can be combined with mobile app for remote answering and opening. Perfect for new buildings and upgrades where new infrastructure is being installed.

4G/5G-based intercom

Completely wireless intercom using the mobile network for communication. Requires no cabling to answer units – all calls go directly to the mobile phone. Ideal for locations without existing infrastructure, temporary installations, or where maximum flexibility is desired.

Upgrading existing intercom

Do you have an older intercom system that no longer works optimally? We have extensive experience upgrading existing systems to modern solutions. In many cases, existing cabling can be reused, reducing both costs and installation time. We assess the condition of existing infrastructure and recommend the best solution – whether it's a simple component upgrade or a completely new system.

Which intercom solution is right for you?

The choice of intercom depends on building type, existing infrastructure and user needs.

Housing associations and apartment buildings

For apartment buildings and housing associations, mobile-based solutions like Defigo have become increasingly popular. Residents don't need a separate answer unit in the apartment – everything is handled via the mobile phone. This provides flexibility and modern functionality. However, it's important to note that elderly residents are not always comfortable with app-based solutions. For such cases, it may be wise to combine with traditional answer units for those who prefer them, or choose a hybrid system.

Commercial buildings and offices

For commercial buildings, it's often more appropriate to use a traditional wired system that ensures calls arrive at the building's reception. The receptionist can then answer and let visitors in professionally. The system can be extended with secondary answering via mobile app, so reception or employees can answer calls even when not at their desk. This provides increased flexibility without compromising reliability.

Benefits of modern intercom

More than just a doorbell – full control over who enters.

  • See who is calling with HD video before opening
  • Answer and open the door from your phone – anywhere
  • Open for deliveries even when not at home
  • Complete log of all visits and openings
  • Integration with access control and cameras
  • Scalable from single home to large commercial buildings
