Schools and Kindergartens

Schools and Kindergartens

We understand that security in schools and kindergartens is about more than technology. It is about protecting children, staff and property – without violating anyone's privacy or creating an environment defined by surveillance. Our solutions are built with privacy at the core, adapted to Norwegian regulations and designed to give you control of the building after hours, without interfering with the daily life of those who use it.

Challenges you may recognise

As a principal or kindergarten manager, you are responsible for a building used by children all day – and that stands empty in the evening. You do not want cameras pointed at children, but you are tired of arriving at work to find smashed windows, graffiti and break-ins at the storage rooms. There is a middle ground.

1

Vandalism and damage after hours

Smashed windows, graffiti on walls, damaged playground equipment and break-ins at storage and supply rooms. It happens repeatedly, costs money to repair, and creates unease for staff who open the building in the morning. Without any form of security, you only discover it once the damage is already done.

2

Privacy and regulations

Norwegian law is strict on CCTV in schools and kindergartens – and rightly so. Children should not be surveilled during their daily activities. However, the regulations do allow CCTV outside operating hours, on outdoor areas and in zones without foot traffic, provided it is done correctly and properly documented.

3

Unauthorised persons on the premises

Schools and kindergartens are often open buildings with many entrances. It is difficult to keep track of who is on the premises, especially during pickup and drop-off. Without access control, anyone can walk straight in.

4

Break-ins at offices and storage rooms

Offices contain sensitive personal data about children and families. Storage rooms hold IT equipment, tools and other valuables. A break-in means not only material damage – it can also mean a privacy breach if documents or computer equipment goes missing.

5

No control over keys and access

Who has a key to the building? Former employees, substitutes, cleaning staff, the caretaker – over time you lose track. Physical keys can be copied, and you never really know who actually has access.

6

Resistance to "surveillance"

Many staff and parents are – justifiably – sceptical of cameras in a children's environment. The challenge is communicating that security and privacy are not opposites, and that the right technology combined with good routines can safeguard both.

How we solve it – with respect for privacy

All our solutions for schools and kindergartens are designed with privacy as the starting point. We help you establish routines, documentation and technical configurations that comply with regulations – while giving you the security the building needs after hours.

CCTV – only after hours

We configure cameras that are only active outside operating hours – for example from 6 PM to 6 AM and at weekends. Cameras can cover facades, entrances, outdoor areas and vulnerable points without filming children or staff during working hours. Schedules and zones are configured technically so it is not possible to activate cameras during operating hours. This gives you documentation of vandalism and break-ins, without violating anyone's privacy.

Intruder alarm with notifications

Alarm systems that activate automatically when the building closes for the day. When triggered, you or the security company receive an immediate alert – with the option of camera verification so you can see whether it is a real break-in or a false alarm. Covers offices, storage rooms, server rooms and other vulnerable areas.

Access control with full traceability

Replace physical keys with electronic access control. Each employee, substitute and supplier gets their own access that can easily be activated and deactivated. You can see who opened which door and when – and you never need to change locks when someone leaves. Time-based access ensures cleaning staff and caretakers only have access during their scheduled hours.

Protection of sensitive data and documents

Offices containing personal files, student records and IT equipment can be secured with a dedicated zone in the alarm system and access control with restricted permissions. This protects against both external break-ins and unauthorised internal access – and helps you meet the requirements of data protection legislation.

Intercom and visitor management

Visitors ring and identify themselves via video intercom before being let in. Staff can see who is at the door and open it from their phone or an indoor panel. Simple, safe and without doors standing open for anyone.

Documentation and routines we help you establish

We do not just deliver technology – we help you establish the routines around it. This includes a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) for CCTV, signage, information for staff and parents, and documentation showing everything is done in accordance with regulations. This way you can confidently explain to parents and staff why the solution is there – and how privacy is safeguarded.
